Maths: Key Stage One

We use fluid groupings when teaching mathematics. The children are usually taught in their class bases but when appropriate are grouped according to their ability.

There are three aims of the National Curriculum in maths. These are:

Children can recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.

Children can follow a line of enquiry, conjecture relationships and generalisations, and develop arguments, justifications or proof using mathematical language.

Problem solving

Children can apply their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication. They can break down problems into smaller steps, and persevere in seeking solutions.

These aims and our calculations policy underpin all of our teaching.
